Reduce the stupid!

Hey Steemians!

I've seen a lot of posts (not just on here) where people seek to scare, to win them to their own side.

The following picture is a great example (although made as a joke) of scare tactics, commonly employed by pseudoscientific fearmongerers, seeking to further their own agenda by exaggeration.

Human blood, as the picture explains, contains a wide variety of substances that sounds dangerous if you don't know what they are; or in what concentrations they are found in blood.
Sure, blood contains acetone, commonly used as nail polish remover, but the concentration of acetone in blood is so low that it isn't harmful. Unless you have unregulated diabetes.
Besides, the body can dispose of the acetone itself.

The picture also mentions dihydrogen monoxide. The chemistry savvy, and those who know the joke, will realise that "dihydrogen monoxide" is in fact, water.

Using words like dihydrogen monoxide, makes it seem like a dangerous chemical. It plays on the fear of the unknown. It sounds dangerous, if you don't know what it is.

My point is, when reading articles (well, anything, really) be critical. Investigate, and do your own research. Don't just trust any random article you find on the web. Always remember that the author may have an agenda, and making you believe in their cause will further their agenda.

Investigate. Research. Reduce the stupid.
