New York Man Dies from Powassan Virus

A New York Man dies from "Exceedingly Rare" tick virus Emily Weyrauch writes from Time... Also writes that "The CDC says there are about 30,000 cases of Lyme disease around the country each year." Anyone who is well educated about the disease, knows the 30k statistics were changed to 300k like 3 or 4 years ago, how these reporters still have their jobs writing this crap is beyond me.

I would say that the Powassan Virus isn't very common compared to other tickborne pathogens, but the words "exceedingly rare?" A day ago, they also said that about the Bourbon virus which killed a woman from Missouri. "Infectious disease specialists sent Wilson's blood work to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which confirmed Wislon had Bourbon virus, an extremely rare tick-borne illness that was first identified at a University of Kansas hospital in 2014."

I'm starting to see a trend where 6-7 years ago they used to say Lyme Disease being rare, now they're saying the same thing with these viruses too. Look, these scientists and doctors would never be able to pinpoint if it was the virus that killed them, the combination of the virus and borrelia that killed them or if it was the combination of multiple viruses that killed them. These scientists don't know their ass from a hole in a ground when it comes to tickborne pathogens, they're super hard to detect, and second there's so many pathogens in the tick right now, they wouldn't know exactly what pathogen killed the person, because every person's body and immune system is different.

It's funny, because lately I've been seeing news organizations warn about Powassan, but yet they're still saying it's "exceedingly rare" to catch, lol. So you morons are warning us about this virus, but it's super rare, WTF is going on here. Again they used to say the same thing 6-7 years ago about Lyme, aka borrelia burgdorferi.

I'm not going to lie, Powassan is more deadly than most tickborne pathogens, especially borreliosis. But, I'm just sick of the amount of misinformation, disinformation being put out there about ticks, lyme, and these pathogens.

What both these morons that wrote these articles need to stop saying is the word "rare." Because all these viruses, bacteria, and coinfections all come from the same source, the tick. So what these bozos are suggesting is, getting bit by a tick and dieing from that bite, is basically rare, no need to worry here, keeping going to your local state park.

These writers need to go about a different way writing these articles, that way these outdoorsmen still take precaution wearing permethrin, rolling their socks above their pants, wearing long sleeve shirts, and tick checking after being out in the woods. Yet they're still being informed about a newer tickborne pathogen that could be spreading.

I think it's highly likely that they'll have a Lyme Disease cure within the next five years, maybe even sooner. But like what one LLMD said in one of the lyme documentaries, by the time they do develop a cure, it'll be too late, because there'll be an evern deadlier tickborne pathogen than borrelia.
