Anti-anxiety Herbal Tea Infusion

I just wanted to share a beautiful blend of herbs that are incredible for relieving any nervous tension and anxiety you may have that's been accumulating from your day to day life. I've been working with herbs full time now for the past 2 years and have found them to be amazing in aiding the treatment and healing of certain ailments. Their medicinal qualities have been taken for granted and pushed aside in recent years and replaced by the "Pill for every ill" which to me is incredibly sad. Mother nature has given us so many wonders that, when respected and used correctly have the ability to enhance our overall health and wellbeing in such a dramatic way. So, if you're feeling shaky, easily startled, consistantly nervous, anxious and irritable, then this little herbal infusion is for you. You'll even benefit from it in the sleep department!

First things first. Cut out the stimulants for a week or two and give this infusion a chance to work its magic! If you continue to fill up with all the nasties that got you here in the first place, it simply won't work and you'll be pushing shit up hill!

Secondly, use at your own risk if pregnant or breastfeeding. Some of these herbs may stimulate the uterus and potentially induce labor. Also, I take no responsibility for any actions you take yourself. I'm not a doctor or professional in the field of medicine and have never claimed to be, I have simply self taught, studied books, field tested and consulted qualified practitioners in the past. You have been warned!

So anyway, onto the fun stuff! What you'll need.

1x Large glass jar with a lid (something that could hold roughly 3-4 Litre).

1x Large saucepan (enough to hold just over 1 litre).

1x Drinking bottle 1 Litre capacity (Glass or stainless steel, not plastic as it leeches into the liquid).

1x Tea strainer or flour sieve.

Pure water (I don't drink tap water, its crap! It contains fluoride, chlorine and other contaminants).

50g Rubbed Thyme - Benefits: Treats acne, bad breath, bronchitis, cough, cramps, diarrhea, digestive disorders, eczema, fever, flu, headache, heartburn, mucous, nervous disorders, nightmares, parasites, sore throat.

50g Echinacea - Benefits: Treats acne, bad breath, bee stings, bladder infection, blood purifier, boils, fever, insect bites, mucous, tonsillitis.

50g Passion Flower - Benefits: Stress induced Asthma, fever, insomnia, high blood pressure, headache, menopause, hot flashes.

50g Lavender Flower - Benefits: Stress reducer, aids in restful sleep, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic qualities, prevents development of harmful digestive bacteria.

50g Withania root - Benefits: Reduces cortisol levels, may reduce anxiety/stress and symptoms of depression, anti-cancer properties, treats adrenal fatigue, improves thyroid function, reduces brain cell degeneration, immune booster.

Fresh lemons - The vitamin C in these little gems will help your digestive system absorb all the goodies!!

Protocol

1. Place all of the dried herbs into the glass jar and mix them by hand. Mixing by hand is better as it evenly distributes them and is much more therapeutic than using a spoon.

2. Juice one lemon and pour it into your drinking bottle.

3. Measure out 1.2 litres of pure water into the saucepan (the extra few hundred millilitres are to take into account evaporation and absorbency of the organic matter)

4. Add 3 heaped table spoons to the water and bring it to the boil on high heat. Boil for 5 minutes

5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the liquid cool to room temperature in a safe place. As Withania is a root, it will need to boil longer than the other herbs to extract all of its medicinal potential.

6. Pour the tea through the strainer into the drinking bottle that contains the lemon juice, squeeze the remaining liquid from the organic material into the bottle. Discard the organic material (it's fantastic in the compost)

7. Drink this tea over the duration of the day. Keep it refrigerated when you're not drinking it and discard it after 24 hours if it's not fully consumed.

If you are serious about changing any nervous disorders that you may have, I seriously recommend giving coffee, tea (black & green - other herbal teas are fine tho), alcohol and nicotine a rest (if not forever, just until you're starting to feel normal again). If I've had a pretty uncontrolled festive season or holiday period, 7 days usually gets me back on track completely but, I tend to drink it more frequently as a maintenance protocol, I enjoy the flavour and it really chills me out.

Hey thanks for this! I definitely will be trying this!

You're welcome! It's my go to when I notice my emotions start to get out of control. To top it off, I usually have a small jar of passion flower, lavender flower and chamomile handy for a sneaky nightcap before bed if I know I'll struggle to sleep. You could add a small amount of valerian to the mix if you like also but that stuff can be pretty heavy and leave you feeling groggy in the morning! Happy tea time!!! :)
