Optimistic People Are More Likely Longevity
Hello Steemit Community
Seeing the bright side of life might help you live longer. According to scientists from the University of Boston School of Medicine in the US, people with a greater sense of optimism are more likely to live to be 85 years or older.
The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, examined 69,744 women from the Nurses' Health Study and 1,429 men from the Veterans Affairs Normative Aging Study.
The women were aged between 58 years and 86 years when they completed an optimism assessment in 2004. Their death status was tracked until 2014.
The age range of men is 41 years to 90 years when they complete an optimism assessment in 1986, and their death status is also tracked until 2016.
When the researchers compared the participants with their initial level of optimism, they found that on average the most optimistic men and women had ages 11 to 15 percent longer.
They also have a 50 to 70 percent greater chance of reaching the age of 85, compared to the least optimistic group.
