Kamala Harris backed a mandatory handgun confiscation in San Francisco during her tenure there.
Of course, there was an exception carved out for police and military. So, agents of the state could keep their handguns. The people couldn't.
Fortunately, the courts struck that law down.
Still, this is a common trend among gun-grabbers, that they want agents of the state to have guns -- not you or me.
We're now three months removed from the murder of Sonya Massey by police. You know, that's the case wherein the officer saw a boiling teapot in her hand, drew his gun, yelled, "Drop it or I'll shoot you in the fucking face.", then she dropped it, said "I'm sorry", dropped to the ground, and the officer still shot her in the fucking face.
Of course, the tax dollars of the people of Springfield Illinois bought that officer's gun. Sonya Massey's tax dollars bought that officer's gun.
Of course, the officer is claiming self-defense.
Contrast that with civilian uses of firearms.
Anti-gun people, who want to claim that the "good guy with a gun" isn't something that happens often will point to the fact that the FBI data show that only about 300 people are killed during the course of a year in lawful self-defense with a firearm. They ignore the CDC report that estimated that between 500,000 and 2 million defensive uses of firearms happen per year.
Think about this. The low number would indicate that there are at least 500,000 American civilians per year who encountered a threat, used a gun to save their lives or the life of another person, and used more restraint than the agent of the state who killed Sonya Massey.
