The Vedas of India describe three modes of material energy. Passion, goodness, and ignorance. Passion is the creative impulse, Goodness is maintenance and Ignorance is the dissolution. Every activity in the material world is directed by the three modes. Beginning, middle and end. The three personalities associated with the three modes are Brahma..creative, Vishnu.. maintaining, and Shiva... destruction.
