RE: The #Happystore: Steem's weekly LISTINGS service (week 21)
The current game is simply using a dicebot, but my previous games required players to perform searches, which would then require the bot to decide if the search was successful or not. If successful, then players would receive an item at random from a list of items. If unsuccessful, players would at random find one of 3 zombies or nothing at all. It is a bit complicated, but shouldn't be too hard to do. I need a really good tutorial on how to interact with steem.
I can write a program in Python that randomly selects a word from a list. I could probably work out how to do it in other languages as well. Like you said, interacting with steem is definitely the hard part. I have been able to do a bit of that with Python, but it's a fair bit of work.
I think your dice bot should be accomplishing the steem side of things already. If I may ask, how does it work? If it pulls comments from your post that say a specific word and replies with a random number, I think that same programming could be adjusted for this task. It's essentially interacting with steem the same way.
The dicebot was made by @daclawboyz for both his and my games to use. I have no idea how it works. Perhaps I need to follow the tutorial he used to make his, then add some extra code to make it do what I need it to respond to? This could lead me into a whole new learning curve.
Yeah, it's definitely a learning curve. Does the bot automatically work on your posts? Or do you have to run a program? If he has a tutorial he used, I could probably use that to make it, or if you'd like to use the tutorial to learn to make the bot, I could give you the code for the randomized responses.
The only way I've been able to make a bot work is to download a virtual machine that has the Ubuntu operating system downloaded onto it, then manually run a Python script. If @daclawboyz has his running on the cloud, it would be much more hands off. I'm not sure how to do that without having to pay monthly for it, but he might know. The dice bot and a search bot should be substantially the same, so if he could point you/me towards a good tutorial that would probably be perfect.
The dicebots work on ANY steem page by calling the accountname. No additional software is required. He did mention a tutorial, but I never thought I would actually need it, so didn't take note of it. My bad. If I understood him correctly, he runs the software off his own server.
However, I did copy the address of a tutorial that shows how to set up a free cloud account and create your own vote bot. I think that might be the better option to try and follow since it doesn't rely on a personal computer being constantly on and available. Here's the link: https://steemit.com/bot/@stellabelle/create-a-free-open-source-voting-bot-with-fossbot
So I managed to set up a live stream of comments, but it throws up an error every now and then. Going to try and find someone who knows what they're doing to give me some advice.
Wow! You are making progress. I need to do 3 sets of income tax before I dive into any new studies. 2 weeks to deadline! I'm beginning to sweat.
Cool, I'll take a look when I get some downtime.
