Maybe... I've actually had 3 different Wordpress experts look at it.. and this speed is the final result.. it was actually way worse.
I'm learning javascript and node.js to maybe create a new website that loads dynamically... but it's not a super priority for me at the moment...
Wordpress is quite flexible and can be used to make your life easier, so I wouldn't dump it altogether unless you enjoy making sites completely on your own and have specific ideas for the site. For the time being, it MIGHT be worth looking at creating just a few pages for the images and move them off Wordpress. Another option is to install a gallery software on your server and link to that for your images.
