MY OFFICIAL ENTRY
TITLE: CHANT
Let the widow's empty barn chant
Let the orphan's singing stomach chant
Let the house wife's famine kitchen chant
Let the eyes mourning hunger-suicide chant
Let the empty pots in your villages chant
Let the empty stoves in our communities chant
Let the dark houses with burning candles chant
Let the broken buildings hosting students chant
Let the death traps on our High Ways chant
Let the man who died before this day rejoice
Let the prisoner in another's jail rejoice
Let our dying friends with dying wishes rejoice
Let the soldier in fierce battle rejoice
Let the father without starving children rejoice
Let the pets we kept before this day rejoice
Let the child in mama's womb tear
Let the infant who came without notice tear
Let the nationalists who couldn't see the future tear
Let the king who thought he stored enough tear
Let the man who signed the freedom pact tear
Chant! for its a Freedom of Anniversary
Broken chains but to your home of slavery
Chant 7 points that later made no point
Chant Transformation of Annihilation
Chant Change of hardship and deterioration
Chant! Chant! Chant!
Chant the songs of slaves not in exile
But songs of slaves in Papa's compound
Happy Independence Till you're dependent
Watch the planes fly above you
Its a reminder that its a new millenium
Watch the gigantic buildings they relax
Its a reminder you have never been lazy
At 9pm, watch them in their clothes and cars
Its a reminder that you did not default in taxes
But do not compare for then you tear
Do not wish for then you die
Do not imagine for then you weep
Do not pray for your pastor is their minion
But for the sake of your Heros
For the sake of he who died thinking of you
For the sake of the blood shed believing
For the sake of the wars fought faithfully
For the sake of our testators who made this trust
For the sake of you who stand resilient
For the sake of you who still believe
This poet can make bold to say
Happy Independence Nigeria
