Influence and the power of Media on our taste
Influence is a factor in all our lives. Everyday we are met with opinions from influencers like celebrities. Marketing materials from brands. Peer pressures of various sorts from friends and family that nudge us to like some thing or see things a certain way. Influence can be positive or negative. I'm totally in favor of when it is used in a positive manner but it is well known that many people get their ideas and world view from their television. Add in the influence of Hollywood films, tv shows, and publications and you have a recipe for ideals that are not organic.
Take for instance beauty. Beauty is something that sits in the eye of the beholder. The beholder is YOU! It's subjective, and can differ from one person to the next.
Fashion magazines and media have sold us the ideal of what constitutes as beauty when it comes to the look and shape of a woman. Usually slender with the right proportions but keep in mind that this is someone else's ideal. See this TIMES article for an example of how we're influenced and nudged towards this notion of the ideal woman.

How many women have been driven to mental illness or their deaths trying to achieve some ideal peddled by some fashion magazine, tv show or commercial?
How many men have missed out on an opportunity to find true love or obtain happiness because they were trying to keep appearances to gain the acceptance from members of their group?
The point here is, be true to yourself. Not to please others, not to gain others approval, and not to conform with societies definition of beauty. You know what you like better than anyone else. You know what works for you and that's what you should go after!
If you like big women, then that's your thing. If you like small women, then that's your thing. What the world deems as beauty should is irrelevant. Go after what makes YOU happy!
