Hans Heyer was a touring car racer who wanted to try Formula 1.

He ran in a qualifier for the 1977 German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring, and did NOT qualify -- but somehow could not restrain himself, snuck into the pits, hopped into his F1 car and drove out into -- joined -- the race. His transmission failed only eight laps in, and of course the stewards DQ'd him when they figured out what he had done...

which made him the only Grand Prix driver to --

Fail to qualify for a race --

Fail to finish a race -- and

Be DISQUALIFIED from a race -- all in a SINGLE race.

Hans is 80 years old now, still popular among long time German race fans for his odd fashion style and his combination of real skills and goofball qualities.
