The Power of Habit - Charles Duhigg

in #habits6 years ago

Hey friend.

Just finished this book yesterday and what a fantastic read!

I learned so much about habits and much more than "how to quit smoking", "how to start running first thing in the morning",...
This is the first book I have read about habits and must say I am impressed by the depth and richness of information, interviews, research,.. the book delves into.
Throughout my life I have been experiencing with changing/adapting and getting rid of certain habits so it was interesting to read more about the subject and what resonated me the most is the chapter on Keystone habits : where it is mentioned that keeping a good habit will have an impact on unrelated areas of one´s life. It has been observed that a person stating to exercise, will start eating better and be more productive at work, at the same time this person uses his/her credit card less frequently,...

I was absolutely fascinated by a few stories of the book : How good or bad habits in an organization will affect its performance, how retail companies will market certain products to you based on your habits, how Michael Phelps prepares mentally before a competition, the story of Alcoa which is reflected in the above paragraph : The CEO focused developing safety habits on the workfloor and this in turn resulted in tremendous changes throughout the company and impacted the bottom line significantly, how habits develop in social movements such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott (Rosa Parks),...Great book, go and read it!
