H1B Visas – the real side of the story
You’ve already heard in the major media and gutless politicians where the tech giants are claiming we don’t have enough Americans to fill tech jobs and so we need to import people from overseas.
I worked for 37 years in IT for fortune 10 companies. I was in the first class to graduate from OSU in Computer Science. 6 graduated out of the 50 that started. For 37 years my employers were always trying to figure out how to reduce IT staff and reduce costs. The fact that they were making billions of dollars and IT was saving them millions by continuously improving the efficiency of running the company was of no consequence.
There is supposed to be a limit to the number of H1b Visas granted each year, however, there is no one counting how many have been granted. The law is a farce on the American worker. What illegal immigration has done to the American blue collar worker, H1b visas do to the white collar worker. Oh I have wonderful friends who were co workers who came here under that program, and I don’t blame them for coming or for never going home. Oh yeah, part of what is never reported is that they never return to their homeland. They have children here and then stay forever. Ok, so what is wrong with that? I have witnessed thousands just within the companies I worked for who were laid off, had to train their replacements in their jobs. This is not about any anger at the people coming here, but the lying tech giants, corporate greed mongers and anti-America first politicians who have promoted this. Some believe the lies being told to them and others just accept the money donation and do as they are told.
I worked in a 10 story building full of IT people at one location. Over 6 years it was reduced to 1 floor as jobs were either farmed out locally or offshored. An American Fillipino friend of mine’s brother graduated in IT a few years back and could not get an IT job in the US. This isn’t about discriminating against foreigners, but about discriminating against American citizens. Where are the America first public officials. Do we really have anyone who represents us?
My former employer decided to take it a step further and to establish IT offices overseas, and have us train our replacements overseas before laying us off. So after decades of learning new computer languages, technologies, upgrading into project management and then management, my time to get laid off came. I was fortunate by that time to be able to retire from there, but I continue to work in other ways, but no longer in IT.
My concern is for all Americans struggling to make a go of it in spite of a government that has turned its back on the forgotten Americans. A great many of which are veterans who if they live through the many wars have precious few jobs to come home to. Blue collar jobs are going to illegal immigration and white collar jobs are going to H1b visas or being off shored altogether. There are hundreds of thousands of veterans who need a civilian job. Oh gee, did you miss that on the nightly news? Of course not. You only hear about weather, Hollywood and sports stars, precious little about soldiers or veterans.
So the problem is in Washington, D.C., right? Wrong! The problem is YOUR elected official in the House, the Senate and the White House. If you aren’t watching their voting record and holding them accountable and calling them, etc., the problem is YOU. This is only a gov’t of We the People, if We the People hold the liars accountable. Would you keep your money at a bank that keeps losing $1,000 of your money every month? What about the billions of dollars “lost” every day by the federal gov’t. Do you think maybe, just maybe it’s time to wake up and take action?

PS. I have friends who were excellent in technology who never found another tech job after years of trying. I’ve met former tech people working in retail stores as clerks. It’s never been about not enough qualified Americans.
