If you consider this from a Buddhist perspective (all things are impermanent) then you should not identify with anything. Or, put another way, you should identify with The Void.
This quote has very deep meaning...it is a psychological truth. Psychology in the Ancient Greek - psyche-soul...logos-word/law - laws of the soul. I have said for years: the Christians who are waiting around for the 'second coming' missed it in Gurdjieff.
Also, I think you misunderstood the meaning invested in the quote entirely. It has nothing to do with enjoyment. Happiness, in Gurdjieff's sense of the word, is very different from what is usually considered happiness by most.
'Identification' in Gurdjieff's teaching has a somewhat unique meaning. He takes it to signify the state he gives in an example of a man smoking a pipe sometimes BECOMES the pipe!
For Gurdjieff conscious action is everything. Identification with an action is the 'sin' - as he says: "if take, then take"

Easier said than done though ;)
