Reloading 22LR

in #guns8 years ago

Yes, there is a kit out there to reload 22LR. Why would you want to, good question?

Think this is more of a do it yourself project rather than something more practical like saving a few bucks because matches aren't that cheap if it cost more than a couple cents in matches per round you're not saving any money. You will still need to buy gun powder and source the lead too, also you need to buy the kit and any tools that you need to measure the powder and cast the lead. So It would take you thousands and thousands of rounds to make back any of that overhead cost assuming you could make these 2-3 cents cheaper than store bought.

Time is a big factor too. A hundred rounds probably takes at least 2 to 3 hours in prep work just to get to a point where you can reload them. You're time might be better spent driving to Walmart and buying 100 rounds of CCI for 10 bucks.

It's an interesting kit, having the 22lr mold might be worth it down the road in a SHTF scenario but using the cash to buy a brick or two of 22lr to stash away instead of buying this is probably just as good.

Sort:

I reload my own ammo, but i wont be reloading 22lr anytime soon. Its just to time consuming for me. There are other thing one can do with the spent brass. Some people swage .223 bullets out of them. Personally what I do is take the spent 22lr brass along with any other junk brass I might have and take it to the smelter for recycling and use the money of that to buy more 22lr ammo or what ever caliber need replenishing.
