Simulation von Daten für die Wissenschaft

Wolltest du schon immer an der aktuellen Forschung teilnehmen ? Möglicherweise bahnbrechende Forschungsergebnisse mitverantworten ? Die Möglichkeit hierzu existiert bereits. Durch die Installation und das Ausführen von BOINC, einer Software der Berkeley Universität, ist es möglich Datenpakete für Forschungseinrichtungen zu berechnen und so aktiver Teil der Wissenschaft zu werden.
Darüberhinaus kannst du damit noch die Kryptowährung Gridcoin verdienen, deren Market Cap immoment bei 13 Millionen Dollar liegt und die ein tägliches Handelsvolumen von mehr als 700.000 Dollar aufweist (Daten von 13.09.17)
In dieser Serie von Artikeln will ich die einzelnen faszinierend Projekte, für die man Daten berechnen kann, vorstellen.

Data crunching for science

Have you ever wanted to take part in cutting edge science ? Be close when groundbreaking new developments are made ? This opportunity already exists. In this series of articles i want to introduce you to the stunning projects that you can take part in.

LHC@home

LHC@home unterstützt aktiv verschiedene Forschungsgruppen am Europäischen Kernforschungszentrum CERN. Mittels Boinc ist es hier möglich ganz verschiedene Auswertungen und Simulationen zu berechnen. Als Beispiel greife ich 2 aus der Gesamtliste heraus und erläutere diese näher.
Sixtrack ist ein Projekt in dem es darum geht den Ingenieuren am CERN zu helfen die Stabilität der beiden Protonenstrahlen zu überprüfen und zu verbessern. Zu diesem Zweck werden Simulationen von 60 Partikeln auf ihrem Weg durch den Ring berechnet. Diese Projekt ist mit der normalen Boinc Software berechenbar.
Atlas ist ein Projekt bei dem es direkt um Forschung im Feld der Teilchenphysik geht. Vielleicht erinnert ihr euch an die Entdeckung des Higgs Bosons in 2012, das ist exakt innerhalb dieses Projekts passiert. Innerhalb dieses Projekts werden Petabytes an Daten aufgezeichnet und zur Auswertung durch das Boinc Netzwerk freigegeben. Dieses Projekt braucht zusätzlich zur normalen Boinc Software noch die Virutalbox Umgebung. (wird als download bei Boinc direkt mit angeboten).

LHC@home

LHC@Home actively supports quite a few projects at the European Organization for nuclear Research. It is possible to support in calculating or simulating using the Boinc software. As an example of the projects you can support here iam taking 2 out of the list and explain them in a bit more detail.
Sixtrack is a project that is about helping the engineers at CERN to improve the stability of the 2 proton beams. To support this you can simulate the way of 60 particles through the ring of cern helping the engineers to create a more clean environment. This project can be run using the normal Boinc software.
Atlas is a project that is directly dealing with research in the field of particle physics. You may remember the discovery of the Higgs Boson in 2012, this was exactly done by these guys. There are petabytes of data recorded when 2 particles collide and they need to be calculated and understood. This is where you come in with Boinc sharing your computational power to exactly do that job. To be able to support with this project you need to additionally have installed the VirtualBox environment.(is directly available at the download page).

Die Projekte des LHC veröffentlichen ständig neues Material, hunderte von Doktorarbeiten werden dort geschrieben, dort ist die absolute Elite der Hochenergiephysik versammelt. Von daher ist hier nicht genug Platz um über die einzelnen Projekte zu schreiben, aber man kann das alles hier nachlesen.

Status of the project

The projects of CERN are authoring almost daily new scientific research and hundreds of thesis have been written there. This is the elite of the international particle physics working there so there is simply not enough room to show all the recent news about the projects. But you can read that here if you are interested.

Gridcoin

Gridcoin belohnt euch dafür das Ihr diese Datenpakete berechnet und aktiv die wissenschaftliche Forschung unterstützt. Gridcoin ist eine Kryptowährung und wird an all jene ausgeschüttet die entweder als Investoren(Berechnen selbst keine Daten) oder als "Forscher" tätig sind.
