Grenfell towers fires subsiding as the Crytptocurrency world was preparing a bloodbath of its own this day [15th of June] .
While I will sleep in a comfortable bed tonight over looking an amazing Swiss Italian lake, thanks to my friends, I couldn't but help imagine not only the suffering of those who survived but also the insurmountable sadness that have out lived those who perished. In a borough where an average house price is well over 500K that no ordinary Londoner can afford. This tragedy is a wake up alarm to those in power, highlighting, the social divide, the obvious negligence and the lengths organisations go to protect their reputations in the face of true concerns from its constituents which were not only ignored but threatened[1].
If there's anything we can learn from our past poor performances, from Hillsborough to the recent child abuse investigations, when it comes to finding justice to those who unnecessarily died and suffered and suffering, it is that, this shouldn't take another 5, 10 or 20 years to resolve it should be NOW. At least there's literally a smoking gun. Who pull the trigger shouldn't take so long that the flowers have withered away and the faces are forgotten. There were many public inquiries before, remember the Leveson? News of the world got shutdown and ordinary people lost their jobs. Those with true accountability where let off with a slap on a wrist, some with none at all to continue, who knows what.
Last time humans were smoked to death were treated with such relevance. This is no less severe and shouldn't be, when there so much evidence. So the question, is poor socioeconomic the new religion that needs eradication from London? I am a rags to the where I am now story. Coming from an almost Sri Lankan city slum to where I am today. With a sister whose 10 years of savings gave me a higher education and a mother that worked so hard to accumulate 400$ for a deposit, in the early 1980s to move out to a new home in a housing scheme proejct through shelter for the homeless initiative [2]. The loan was for 50 years, we it paid back almost instantly once I had my first overseas paid employment. This project generated nearly 250-350K homes across the country during that decade if I remember correctly. These were not luxury homes but basic safe harbors where I felt as part of a community. My brother and his family lives in the same place to date. Its Of course, far more modern since I lived there.
Grenfell is one of the worst human tragedies in our peace time. I can't simply imagine calling my loved ones to tell that Death has come knocking and I have no choice but open the door. Those on the other end experiencing how vibrant life is snuffed out of your love ones; I can't even begin to comprehend the gravity of it, only those who truly faced such a tragedy could. My feelings draws tears as I write this.
If Theresa May truly wants to redeem her Strong and Stable crown back, then she needs to make sure that she is n't another hardhearted politician who only cares about procedures and economics but an approachable human being that stand up to the country's most vulnerable persons and recognizes their skin is important as hers. Though it's important, Leadership is not only the ability to negotiate but the distance you will carry your wounded comrade in battle.
