GO GREEN 2019, My 365-Day Diary for Mother Earth and Humanity! (Day 9 of 365)

Health Awareness and Social Clues of a Massive Increase in Health Issues
Hi, Steemheads!
This is going to be a reflection of a realization I had last month. It was December and my Japanese boss was here with his teen daughter and we were going around malls and places to have a tour and buy stuff. They are Christians and celebrate Christmas so they wanted to experience a Philippines Christmas. As we were touring we pass my drugstores and my employer was keen to notice that our Philippines drugstores were all jampacked with people. He would always ask me what is this place and I will tell him it's a drugstore and he would always ask me why are there many people and what is in there. I did not realize it was unusual until he, a foreigner noticed it.
He really had this look on his face for real.
While we were having our meal time or any down time he would always tell me how he is bothered about the Philippine drug stores having so many people in them and what it means. For me, it was sad because he saw a real problem in our society that probably no one else is noticing. I told him, yes Filipinos have so many common illnesses like hypertension and diabetes. He looked so horrified to know about this and knowing that I am chronically ill he was telling me probably there is something wrong with the lifestyle or probably the government is not doing anything about information drive. Both I think are true.

People in the Philippines take health for granted and we don't even care where our food is coming from. Unlike generations ago when most of us embrace farming and having our own livestock or poultry. Nowadays, even if Philippines is clearly and agricultural country, people do not venture into an industry related to food supply. In fact, we almost import everything from nearby countries. Like anywhere, we have been dependent of corporations for our food supply and we are bombarded with GMOs or genetically modeified Organisms from plants to animals. We also rely on heavily processed foods and less and less on foods that are organic and from natural sources.
The government is also behind in coming up with the statistics and information drive is very rare. Sure they try to inform people about diabetes on diabetes awareness month but that's just probably it. The situation is very alarming and everyone should look into this.
In the future, I will try to free my schedule and go around cities and take photographs of how this scenario looks like and probably share it in social media. Maybe just maybe people will get to notice how odd it is or maybe they'll just give a blind eye and accept it as normal.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH. IT'S DIFFICULT HERE ON THE OTHER SIDE. NEVER TAKE YOUR HEALTH FOR GRANTED. MODIFY LIFESTYLE AND BEHAVIOR THAT WILL CAUSE YOU HEALTH ISSUES IN THE LONG RUN. THE TIME IS NOW.
