Old Men's Wisdom - Greek Steemians Advise (Part 2)

Hello to everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time! This is the second post on a series born in the head of @ruth-girl. We thought it would be of great help to offer all those newbies some advice by the older members of the community.

As we said in our previous post, this series is nothing more than some "personal wisdom" gained by the members of the platform that, just like you, were once a noob and had no idea how this thing works, what all those terms are, what the hell they were supposed to do and what should they avoid.

@trumpman's wise words are:

My first piece of advice is to try and have fun. If your plan here is to just make money, then you will probably fail. Post about the things you like and try to be as thorough as you can, whales are generous but typically need to see there was some effort from your side. Don't expect to be succesful just by reposting that cool video you saw while taking a poo in the toilet.

Also, try to have a personal style, and write original stuff. Chances are nobody is gonna read and upvote your "What Is Cancer" post, even if you put a good and original spin on it. If I wanted to know what cancer is I would just head over to wikipedia.

Don't forget to be social and network with people. Yes, getting that random @blocktrades (or any other random whale) vote does feel good, but I would much rather prefer have a stable following of 20-30 minnows that like, share and comment on my posts!

And a final piece of advice... Most people suck when they start blogging. You probably suck too, heck I feel like I still suck although I am sure many would be jealous of my rewards. It's ok! Just thrive to improve and be a better you next time!

And a final final piece of advice. If you have no idea of what to do, see what other people you think are successful do. Try to follow their steps and once you get the hang of it try to surpass them.

Hmmm... Okkk... Here's a final final final piece of advice! Even now, 2 years after steemit's creation, newcomers are still early adopters. If you are financially indepetend, try to HODL every last steem you make. Remember, BTC wasn't always priced at 16.000 $ per piece 😉

@ruth-girl's wise words are: 

Create: bring your personal style to the platform, blog about the topics you love, be original and don't try to copy other users. 

Build your audience: interact with other users, comment on their posts and answer the comments they leave for you. Support people with meaningful feedback, not unimaginative comments like "Wow!" "Good post!" etc. You need to have a support group around you, nobody makes it alone around here (unless of course you're a big fat whale and everybody wants to kiss your ass).

Don't be a beggar: the "Follow for follow and upvote for upvote" tactic is pathetic and needy. You cannot follow let's say 600 users and upvote all of them on a daily basis, you'll end up "burning down" all your voting power and never get to actually read all those posts from the people you follow. This means zero effective interaction on the platform.

Don't take it too far: multiple posts per day are not advisable. Try to maintain a healthy balance of one or two posts (maximum) per day. There is no need to bombard your follower's feed every couple of hours, allow for each post of yours some time to find its readers.

Don't be afraid to report and flag: cases of abuse should be reported to @steemcleaners (this link has more details on the matter). We need steemit to be a healthy place, but this is not going to happen unless we all do something about it.
