2000: Kostas Karamanlis throws Georgios Karatzaferis out of New Democracy. Karamanlis’ reasons were the statements made by Karatzaferis about the party president and the press spokesperson Aris Spiliotopoulos.

“On that basis, I sent a letter to the President of Parliament with which I inform him that the particular Member of Parliament, no longer belongs to the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy and consequently, is out of the party's instruments in which he participated in the capacity of Member of Parliament with New Democracy.”
