GRE Vocab: Most Common GRE Words (Part-3)
It's time for another post to brush up on your vocabulary skill for the upcoming GRE. We are going to cover another five words associated with videos and explanations to help you get a sound grasp over their use and meaning. So let's get down to business! :)
Egregious(adjective):
Exceptional in a negative fashion; outrageously badSomething obviously bad is egregious, e.g., an egregious lie, an egregious mistake, an egregious injustice. Calling an African-American person "black" is an egregious display of racism. Excerpt from the Tv Show: 24
Forlorn(adjective):
marked by or showing hopelessness; sad and lonelyYou might be forlorn after a sudden breakup or the death of your close friend. Being forlorn refers to feeling dejected and completely alone where one feels like he is the only person undergoing this ordeal. Excerpt from the Tv Show: Stranger Things
Germane(adjective):
relevantWhile consulting a lawyer, you should not leave any germane matter related to the case undiscussed, i.e., all pertinent--a synonym of germane--details should be covered. Excerpt from the Tv Show: Breaking Bad
Idiosyncrasy(noun):
a behavioral attribute that is distinctive and peculiar to an individualA weird habit of yours can be considered as your idiosyncrasy. Steve Jobs used to drive a silver 2006 Mercedes SL 55 AMG with no license plate because he did not want to be tracked and park in the handicapped spot thinking the blue wheelchair symbol meant the spot was reserved for the chairman! Laconic(adjective):
brief and to the point; concise; using few wordsYour laconic professor might take only five minutes to explain a very complex topic and make it completely comprehensible to each and everyone in the class. Surrounding the city of Laconia, King Philip II sent a message to the Spartans, "You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city."
