I'm Grateful to God for Little Helpers

As my little ones grow bigger, it's amazing to see these 'babies' become helpful. They watch daddy and mommy around the house and they want to help.

Sometimes it's easier to not have them help

I mean they get in the way and they make messes.

It's not always done well, but it does get done

My youngest likes to help the most, even though she's the least capable right now. Her favorite task is to unload the dishwasher... whether the dishes are clean or not!

Her second favorite it setting the table, to the best of her ability.

It's not really helping

It's tempting sometimes to focus only on the outcome and the finished job and prevent our children from 'helping'. Because it's not really helping at all! The challenge for us it to view is differently - that even though it does not help or make everything run well.

But sometimes the value of having them help is not getting the job done faster, but teaching our children how to do things that are useful for the family is the true value.

It doesn't matter if it's really helping or not

Someday, all this extra work for daddy and mommy will pay off, as these 'big messes' that we have to fix and clean up, will someday become useful and efficient jobs that our children will enjoy.

I'm watching my daughter do the dishes with WAAAAY too much dish-soap. Daddy's gotta buy that, you know. There's suds everywhere. My oldest is showing me her "steemit pie"

Training Children is a Blessing

Every day is another opportunity to train our children - they get plenty of play time, but even play time is learning time.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

We try our best as parents to keep ourselves in a good attitude, so we can be a good example for our children. Sometimes that's the greatest challenge.

A Steemit-pie? We're brainwashing her! She must've figured out you were taking the picture for a post.

You'll have to do the sequel tomorrow: why we're thankful for the garbage disposal that quit working in the middle of the soap suds party! grin

I really love your post, as i have a kid also (1,1 years old) and this we have in the future. I totally agree on that outcome is less important that the actual doing. They are kids, they learn, and they will not see the world as grown ups see it. they don't know that it should be like that and it have to be done like that. But they will learn all those things eventually. But they will never learn helping out your family and friends, if you don't let them :) One more time thanks for the post :)

You are very welcome for the post, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Gotta keep looking at that eventuality - my youngest will someday know the difference between clean dishes and dirty, and my other daughter won't waste half a container of dish soap on one pan. They are learning everyday and we'll look back at this post and laugh. Thanks for your comment! @ironshield

Raising children is a challenge, for sure, but oh, so rewarding! And sometimes we need to be patient for those rewards...

It's funny, looking back at the photos it looks so pleasant... but enter our minds for that moment and it's like "no don't do that" and "You're getting suds everywhere!" @ironshield

Been there, done that and have the T-shirt. Also scars on the tongue from biting it...lol

Wow!! Ur 2 girls are amazing. The more they partake in the house chores, the more they become more perfect. 4 d fact they are helping out without been told to do so, means they will turn out really helpful to people around them..

Yes, it's a good sign when they try to help without asking, although sometimes that makes for a lot more work for daddy and mommy! @ironshield

That is lovely teach them young and they will grow up right. I have two kids who are in their teens now. I'm glad I gave them chores and help out around the house. One already prepares our dinner sometimes when already overwhelmed from a days work. When they have families of their own they would teach them the same. Love your post these are not just chores it is setting up kids to face life. Have a good evening or morning there :)

Good morning! That's something i'm looking forward to, when my girls can reliably clean up for themselves, prepare dinner and help with projects. I'm starting to see it even now! Thanks for your comment. @ironshield

Wow this is so cute! Little helpers are really sweet. My 4 year old loves to help me too; ends up making lots of mess but I appreciate and value his sentiments so I let him do it. He helps me fill water bottles and enjoys spilling water around a lot haha

Ha, yes I can relate! My youngest has a fascination with pouring things from one container to another, sometimes right on to the floor! @ironshield

Hahaha my son does that too :P
