"His Grass..."
Everybody knows about the saying “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.”
It generally pertains to the way we tend to look at others’ lives and some other things that we don't generally have, through colorful glasses.
It all came from the idea of looking at a neighbor’s yard and seeing it as better or great looking, fuller, healthier, and mainly greener than what you own, when in fact you are just neglecting anything negative and bad about it and de-emphasizing or downplaying everything good and positive about your own.
Basically, what usually happens is we get too focused on looking and appreciating what's on the other fence and enjoying seeing the beauty of it, and we end up disregarding our own garden that is now left taken for granted.
Others see the positive things we have in our yard which we fail to see, because our eyes are glued to the attractive greener yard on the other fence.
You tend to believe that your neighbor who owns that yard is in a better situation than you, although he may not be.
Moreover, you don't reckon the things he had to do and efforts he exerted only to be able to have the beautiful garden he has now. You may suppose everything is perfect with his yard. Unknowingly, your neighbor might have his eyes on your yard for the beautiful things it has which you have failed to see.
I admit that I was once like this. I was not appreciative enough. I was not content. I wanted what I didn't have. I always thought I needed more and different.
In some cases, I learned the hard way, letting other people tell me what a fool I was not to notice what I had.
But hey, at least I learned.
I have stopped focusing on what others have and started to see all good things I already have. I took care of my garden. I watered it. I appreciated everything that's good about it. I accepted the bad and worked on things to make it more beautiful and fuller.
From this, I learned that "Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have." It comes from many great and small acceptances in life.
You are never every going to be happy until you have contentment and satisfaction.
Because satisfaction in life arises from knowing you are exactly where you belong.
Discontented people strive to be somewhere else or someone else, and they are never happy. It is very unfortunate that we tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have..
berde good :))
