"SEC20/WK3: Typography and Practical Application."
Greetings friends of Steemit
All text involves typography.
You've seen them in advertisements, road signs, packaging and so much more
So what is typography?
Like the clothes you wear it gives you a sense of self-expression
Typography gives text a style to communicate its message
These styles are distinguished as typefaces. A typeface is the collective name of designed characters. Back when words were written by hand, books were costly to make. A man named Johannes Gutenberg revolutionized print with movable type. Reversed lessons casted on the ends of lead alloys were dipped in ink to print letters on a page.
And so later on with letters being carved by different people it led to a variety of styles which we know as typefaces today.
Important design choice by the way serifs are those little lines at the edges of letters that some people believe makes printed text easier to read different fonts has also been proven to have certain psychological effects on the people that see them.
Typeface which is the design or style of the actual alphabetic letters themselves so Helvetica Nueue, Alpha Slab One, Times New Roman, Open Sans those are all names of typefaces.
Fonts is a digital representation of single version of that typeface with one weight one width and one style of that typeface so Helvetica Nueue Bold is a completely different font than helvetica new italic or helvetica new regular likewise Alpha Slab One Regular Times New Roman italic or Open Sans Condensed are all individual fonts type family is the collection of all of the fonts. so
Helvetica Regular
Helvetica Oblique
Helvetica Light Oblique
Helvetica Bold
Helvetica Bold Oblique.
All together form the type family of helvetica with all of the fonts.
