NYSC: A selfless service not free service.

NYSC is a scheme that was established to enhance the unity of Nigeria. unarguably,the scheme has tremendously unified Nigeria in its own little way.
But the bitter truth is that the cons of the scheme outweigh the pros.
In the past, many people, both serving corps members had called for the scrapping of the scheme due to one negative reason or the other.

Just recently, an incident happened, precisely November 2017. Some Corp members were erroneously paid their monthly stipend twice and the management of NYSC immediately took a drastic measure to forestall such situation from happening again and also went as far as threatening corps members that benefitted from the error dispense payment. Something similar also happened late last year, some corps members were erroneously not paid for the month of December. Most of the affected corps members have lodged complains to the concerned authorities but nothing concrete was done.
But when NYSC lost some amount of money as a result of the erroneous double pay issue, the scheme took corrective measures without much ado. Why has NYSC not done the same to corps members whose December allowance were not paid? Is it because they won't benefit any money from it?
As if that was not enough, few days ago, January stipend was paid, the same set of corps members who were not paid their December allowance were also left out in the January allowance.

Does it mean NYSC staff are now stealing from corps members monthly take home stipend that is not enough to take us home? A lot of complaints have been lodged, even peaceful protests have been staged by some Corp members but nothing seems to have been done. NYSC staff are now like a security guard that is asked to protect an item but instead of the guard to protect the said item, he steals it home.
The rate of corruption in NYSC is alarming and appalling. If the present administration's fight against corruption must succeed, the ministry of Youth and Sports which houses NYSC must be investigated in order fetch out the bad eggs from the scheme.
We are tired of working without being paid, NYSC is a selfless service and not a free service, a Labourer has to be paid for the job or service rendered. The monthly allowance is our entitlement.
