How to deal with Trump

There has been a lot of hatred shown towards Trump, and a lot of it is justified. However is the approach his opponents are taking the appropriate one?

We have seen a lot of bullying, from artist depictions of his supposedly small penis, to a myridad of twitter take-downs. It is the reaction most obvious for people to take when someone thinks highly of themselves, try and take them down a peg and ridicule them. We can assume that Donald is at least aware of some of these responses, but can we assume they are affecting him in the way we hope?

What if instead of thinking "oh the people hate me, maybe I should try and change so I can please them" he is thinking "fuck those stupid proletariats". We have learned from South Park that the ego does mental gymnastics to protect it's owner from insult and injury, and from Trumps responses to people like Meryl Streep we can see that he doesn't care all that much about the opinion of his opponents. Maybe he's basking in the attention, and the insults are actually affirming what he already believes?

The best case scenario is he will punish the prolateriat with worse policies, now that he hates them even more. The worst case is he will get angry and initiate a nuclear war. So is it time we rethink our approach?

As Trump to me seems like a spoiled child, my opinion is to treat him like one. Don't give him the attention he craves. Talk to him in a mature way about the problems and wishes of the people, without getting emotional. For us to craft a better future, as a people we need to think more carefully about our behaviour and work towards pragmatic ways of getting what we want, not just being emotional and confontational.
