Tiramisu is a very simple Italian dessert made with coffee-infused ladyfingers, whipped mascarpone, and/or cream, but it could also be the codename for Android's future version. That is, if XDA Developers' last commit is to be trusted. The message states, "Rename T to Tiramisu," which XDA adds is the first public indication of a dessert-themed codename for Android 13, which is slated to be released next year.
Each version of Google's mobile OS featured a version number and a dessert-based name that moved alphabetically with each successive release until Android 10. Ice Cream Sandwich was Android 4, Jelly Bean was Android 4.1, KitKat was Android 4.4, and so on. With Android 10, however, Google dropped the dessert names because it was in the unpleasant situation of having to come up with a dessert that began with the letter "Q." Since then, each Android release has just had a number as its public name. Internally, though, Google has continued to refer to each new Android version as a dessert.
Android 10 was codenamed "Quince Tart," Android 11 was codenamed "Red Velvet Cake," and Android 12, which is presently in development ahead of a fall release, is codenamed "Snow Cone."
