US Dollar Translucent Rp 14.000, This Sri Mulyani said
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the rupiah exchange rate on Monday (7/5/2018) reached Rp 14,000 per US dollar due to the market situation is adjusting the policy changes by the United States Government.
What the government will do to respond is by continuing to coordinate to keep Indonesia's economic performance in good shape while simultaneously through this adjustment period.
"We will continue to maintain the Indonesian economy, our foundations strengthen, our performance improves, until so-called market sentiment is relatively neutral to Indonesia," said Sri Mulyani at the Ministry of Finance, Central Jakarta, Monday night.
According to Sri Mulyani, the management of the fiscal side is maintained, with the current account deficit below 3 percent safe limits on gross domestic product (GDP), inflation in the range of 3.5 percent, and an economic growth rate of 5.06 percent for the first quarter of 2018 which is still considered good. Sri Mulyani ensured, the government will continue to maintain these indicators until market participants see Indonesia as a country with a good economy and stable.
"Thus, the whole adjustment can be done much faster and without significant fluctuation that will disrupt the economic recovery of Indonesia," said Sri Mulyani.
The rupiah's weakening trend has been going on for some time now. The dynamics of the exchange rate is in the range of Rp 13,700 to Rp 13,900 and touched Rp 14,000 per Monday.
Analysts who expect the weakening of the rupiah will continue over the past week, potentially even by the end of May 2018.
Factors contributing to the weakening of the rupiah were the distribution of the issuer's dividend at the beginning of the second quarter of 2018 which led to high demand for the US dollar, the strengthening of the United States currency, to increase US treasury or bond interest rates above 3 percent.
