There are a few problems with crypto's as they are at the moment. One problem, that was once suggested was a benefit, is rearing it's ugly head now. That is 'proof of work' and mining which is a very energy wasteful way to create non-intrinsic value. Imagine how that energy could have been used to power more humanity positive things like genome analysis, deep space search or ecology protection. Mining for a bunch of questionable crypto-non-coins just seems wasteful to me.
