WHAT NO ONE EVER TELLS YOU ABOUT GOLD
There are many speculations regarding gold's rarity.
Some regard it to be the only real symbol of wealth whereas others just believe it to be a shiny overvalued metal. What is the truth though? Should one store their wealth in gold or is that a waste of money?
But let me bring up the matter of how rare gold actually is. According to official data, all gold humanity has ever managed to mine amounts to 125 000 tonnes or about 3.5 billions ounces. Keeping in mind that about 20% of it is used for industry purposes and about other 30% in jewelry with low carats (low enough not to be regarded as an investment), it leaves us with about 1.8 billion ounces of gold. If you take out of the equation the amount of gold stored by the governments and central banks (i.e. gold which is not likely to ever make it to the public), we could find ourselves with a little over 1 billion ounces, which is less than 1/6th of an ounce per person on the planet (5.2 grams).
Imagine now what could happen if/when this fiat-based monetary system dies. Imagine what would happen when all the trust in fiat is lost. What would replace that? There are not many alternatives and it's likely to be gold again. Yeah, that's right the gold monetary system that has outlives a number of civilizations and proved itself to be working efficiently for thousands of years.
The very reason governments got rid of it is exactly because of the tight borders it was setting on them and the central banks. That's why information and interpretation of how rare and precious gold actually is can hardly be found anywhere. Yet there is just one fact to remember: when humans lose total faith in all fiat currencies, we will all turn to gold and it will be then when it is realized how "little of wealth" there is for each of us (just about 5 grams, or about $210). Well, that's "little wealth" at currency gold prices. Obviously, prices will need to be very different in order to reflect the current world's wealth in terms of gold.
