Bible wisdom: Many have come to their downfall as the result of gold, finding themselves face to face with ruin. Ben Sira 31:6

The Bible with its well-known wisdom teaches that the love of riches, or the love of gold, is a trap for reason and a deception that has led many to ruin. And this is a spiritual truth, for a very simple reason, the existence of the universal law of sowing and reaping, a law that no one, no matter how powerful, can evade: "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7, and also: "Do not sow in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold," Ben Sira 7:3. No matter how intelligent the calculations are to satisfy greed and avoid the effects of destructive actions, there comes a point when situations become so complex that calculations become insufficient and that is when the famous stumbling rocks arrive. And this is what the Bible is so insistent on.
And on this subject, the master of wisdom Ben Sira wrote the following in his book:
"Many have come to their downfall as the result of gold,
finding themselves face to face with ruin.
It is a stumbling block to those who are avid for it,
and every fool is trapped by it" Ben Sira 31:6-7.
In this way, the sapiential books of the Bible, like Proverbs, Wisdom, and Ben Sira, teach that men should avoid this path, sin is not a safe path and produces much unhappiness over time, the ego when it becomes very intense becomes a very heavy rock to manipulate, and this first of all for the person's own mind and then for others.
The sapiential Book of Ben Sira also teaches that this bad love has been the driving force of a humanity given over to sin throughout history, beginning with Adam and Eve and their original sin: "Sovereignty passes from nation to nation as the result of injustice, arrogance, and wealth" Ben Sira 10:8. In short, beyond ideologies and masks, the origin of wars lies in greed. Sin is ultimately a profound rejection of God and the truth, and the suffering this causes is not in God's plan for humanity. God invites men to seek his grace, his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness), and to reject error.
