Genesis 1:2... verse 2

2 The earth was without form, and void;

The Hebrew phrase here is tohuw va bohuw (toe-hoov vah bo-hoov)... The earth was ‘tohuw va bohuw’...
I believe… The simplest approach on this… does not involve a Gap Theory)…

The Gap Theory… has the idea That the Rebellion of Satan and the Angels destroyed the earth and suddenly it became… Without form and void..

… This Gap Theory… Is used to make a way for an old earth… (Make room for Billions of Years)…

… Problem is ???... (Death and Decay) is recorded in the fossil record… And the Bible is clear that death and decay entered in through ADAM and EVE...

… So THE SIMPLEST APPROACH here ???… Nothing SIMPLER than some kind of void and formless MASS… (Pre-DIRT if you will)… that in fact...“God had created something from from nothing”...

… Which is the Hebrew word for created in verse 1… Bara… meaning to Create something from nothing...

… (The Periodic Table is still proof that we have never done this)...

The news was just announced that We (Man) has completed a 7th row OF THE PERIODIC TABLE consisting of MAN-MADE ELEMENTS…

(“Wow… Do we need God anymore ???... We are so advanced !!!”)...

… (But let me point out to you)… That we have yet to CREATE SOMETHING FROM NOTHING… In fact we can’t even MAKE DIRT or begin to EXPLAIN where IT CAME FROM… (Dirt ?)...

… (OHHH)… We can rearrange the dirt… (Make other elements)… But we can’t make the stuff that dirt is made out of...
