Spiritual studies about faith: Why does the bible say "No one has ever seen God" in John 1:18?

in #god4 years ago

Tomas Aquinas in his book Suma of Theologiae in the question 12 propose how we know God, about this the theologian answers in the article 1: "It is not reached either with the sense, neither with the fantasy, nor with the imagination, nor with the reason, nor with the science".
God is the wisdom itself, talking about God is talking about wisdom explain Thomas Aquinas, wisdom is not accessible to fantasy, imagination, reason, or the senses
About this the apostle John teaches in the bible: "No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.", John 1:18

Spiritual studies about faith. Why does the bible say, No one has ever seen God, in John 1.18.jpg

Wisdom is not something we "can see" but something we "can perceive with the good intelligence" (spiritual gift of knowledge), this is what Jesus refers to, when he speaks of "seeing the Kingdom of God" or "entering the Kingdom of God":
"Now there was a Pharisee,a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said: "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him".
Jesus replied: "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again".
How can someone be born when they are old? Nicodemus asked.
Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!
Jesus answered: "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying: "You must be born again". The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the spirit". John 3:1-8
Jesus in this passage from the Gospel of John explains that God can only be perceived by intelligence through contemplative activity, contemplative activity or eternal life is meditation focused on the divine attributes of God. Contemplative activity is a fruit of the pure of heart, of those who are born again in the spirit.
The holy spirit through his mercy gives us the grace to perceive the divine: "God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." Romans 5:5.
