Jesus taught: The tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you
When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, he went to teach in the temple and there exposes the parable of the two sons:
"What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ´Son, go and work today in the vineyard´
´I will not´, he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
Then the father wento to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ´I will, sir´, but he did not go.
Which of the two did what his father wanted?
´The first´, they answered.
Jesus said to them, ´Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did.
And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him´", Matthew 21:28-32.
The kingdom of God is not a matter of appearances, but of conversion, because God weighs the hearts, the gift of conversion is the passage from a life full of sins ("If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them", James 4:17 ) to a life of righteousness ("Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Matthew 7:12). Of the two children, only the first fulfills the will of the father, both sons sin, but one repents because he understands that he made a mistake and amends the action.
The kingdom of God is the growth in values, it is the development of our own excellencies: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48; "Be merciful as your heavenly Father is merciful", Luke 6:36; "Be holy because I am holy", 1 Peter 1:16. The kingdom of God is the government of mercy, the reign of perseverance, the dominion of continuous improvement (spiritual gift of fortitude), the empire of righteousness. Jesus, through simple examples, explains that good and evil are ethical solutions, solutions to human behavior. Faith and hope need a change of heart towards God.
