How do you choose the perfect gift for someone?-- Realizations on gift-giving
Admit it, when Christmas season comes or other special occasions like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and such are fast approaching, one of the first things that come in mind are gifts. Gifts are one way of showing appreciation. We want to make the people close to us, whose celebrating these occasions to feel special and loved. We want to make sure that we'll give them more than what they deserve to make them feel happy and blessed. So who agrees with me when I say that deciding on a perfect gift for someone for a specific occasion is not an easy task?
These are actually some of the things I consider when deciding on what to give to someone:
- The receiver's personality
- The person's hobbies and likes
- The usability of the item or gift to the person I'm buying it for
- The uniqueness or effort spent (gifts you create yourself like handmade scrapbook)
- If it fits into my budget
But specifically this time I had a really hard time deciding on what to give to my special someone for his birthday even if I already have these guidelines in mind. However, after a thorough thinking, I've finally decided on what to do and to give. My gift is practically anchored on my 4th guideline since my partner basically has everything he needs and so buying him another shirt or any other material he can afford won't be so special anymore. So I went with the most basic, writing him a letter. Nothing really goes wrong with letters. It's something personal and special and something I know he can appreciate.
I've also decided on asking and collecting birthday video greetings and messages from his close friends to put them into one whole compilation to show it to him on his birthday. :) These friends are very close to his heart and he seldom see them as well so I really hope he'll be surprised when he sees the video and will appreciate it.
And lastly, on his day, I'm planning to sing him a song personally with my guitar. I just hope everything falls into place. But mostly with these thoughts that have pre-occupied my mind for the past days, I've realized that at the end of the day the most important gift you can always give to someone will be your time, because it's limited and you can't get this in return.
How about you Steemians? Any more gift-giving ideas you can add and share to this?
