"HIGH PRICE BOUGHT" INDEPENDENCE - A CALL TO GHANAIANS
Today marks 61 years of independence for our motherland, Ghana. These sixty one years of freedom were purchased "through the blood and toil of our fathers," as our pledge says. Our fathers' blood laid the foundations of our Nation Ghana--at that time Gold Coast--and it is that which we celebrate today.
In Ephraim Amu's "Y3n Are Asaase Ni" which means "This Our Native Land", he calls for patrotism by reminding us the price that was payed for our freedom.
Yɛn ara asaase ni;
Ɛyɛ aboɔden de ma yεn,
Mogya a nananom hwie gui;
Nya de too hɔ maa yɛn,
Our fathers bought our independence with their blood: their lives were the payment. Today, we celebrate not the day in itself but also virtually and collectively in our minds, our fathers who counted our freedom more worthy than their own lives.
Paul in Galatians 5:1 says " Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." I echo these words to Ghanaians: "May we stand fast this 'high price bought' freedom and may we not bow down our necks to any yoke of bondage, whether external or internal".
May we not sell our nation for our own profits but daily, by prayer and supplication, we plead on God for the prosperity of the Nation and it's peace thereof that we might also prosper and live peacefully in our motherland.
Ghana is all we have and we all ought to keep, yes we all have to! I believe that is the only way to say "thank you" to our fathers for their blood.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.-1 Timothy 2:1-2
And seek the peace of the city... and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.- Jeremiah 29:7
