Things that only German learners will understand…

German is a quirky language. Here are some curious observations that only students of German will understand.

1. Some German words sound more “correct” than their English counterparts, like how some people “just look like their name.”

2. The people in your dreams speak better German than you do (cue Twilight Zone theme music).

3. You suddenly discover that you possess new superpowers, such as the ability to talk to dogs (it is a scientific fact that all dogs speak German).

4. France’s mere existence begins to irritate you (all those superfluous letters and haphazard spelling rules! How can they stand it?!).

5. It suddenly dawns on you that Master Yoda’s first language must have been German.

6. You have this overwhelming urge to end all your sentences with “or.”

7. It becomes self evident that the makers of Scrabble didn’t take German into account when they settled on a board size.

8. All of your counterarguments consist of a single word: Doch!
