Geology: Geology of the Oldest Mountains in the World: Vol. 2 - Denudation of the Southern Appalachians
Now that I've had the opportunity to live in different regions of the Appalachian Mountains, I'm able to discern changes in the topography in any given region of the mountain chain. For instance, in southwestern Virginia the valleys are wide and the mountains are on average much lower in altitude. On the other hand, in western North Carolina the valleys are narrow and the mountains are taller on average. This led me down the path of trying to figure out why the two regions are topographically different from one another. Today I will be discussing what causes these differences in the landscape of these regions.

Last time we talked about how too many nutrients being pumped into the ocean can lead to dead zones forming in it. This time we're going to talk about how too few nutrients pumping into the ocean can hurt it. In order to do that, we're going to travel to the oldest continuous civilization on the planet- Egypt.
The Nile brings life. It always has. The yearly floods washed over the fields of Egyptian farmers, watering the fields and depositing nourishing silt atop their fields. Egypt is the only of the great civilizations of antiquity to have endured as intact as it has, despite being conquered countless times, and it's entirely thanks to the Nile. And now, in the name of progress, we've likely doomed Egypt.
Anthropology: The Anthropology of Sex and Gender - Part 2: The Anthropological approach to Sex and Gender and Gender Stereotyping
Why do anthropologists refrain from conforming to new usages of the terms "sex" and "gender", as used in popular discourses and other social sciences?
Why do anthropologists use "sex" as a term for (biological) differences, and "gender" to indicate a category that includes men (and boys) as well as women (and girls)?
Retention of the term "sex" and an interpretation of the term "gender" to include men can be ascribed to holism, a basic tenet of anthropology.As I have explained previously, holism involves looking at the problem as a whole and not dividing it up for the sake of convenience or to promote an ideological cause. Sociocultural anthropologists advocating a holistic approach believe that every social or cultural variable relevant to their particular unit of analysis should be considered. In general, holism in anthropology can also mean that every variable relevant to the study of human beings should be considered this includes the biological aspect of humanity. Some anthropologists still cling to the holistic ideal in both sociocultural and the general sense.
History: Story Tigranes The Great a King-(Greatest Armenian King)
Tigranes the Great ruled as the king of Armenia from 95 to56 BCE. Expanding in all directions, at its peak, Tigranes’ Armenian Empire stretched from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. Not before or since would Armenians control such a huge swathe of Asia. Tigranes would only be checked once his kingdom became enmeshed in the ambitions of the two regional superpowers, Parthia and Rome, when his alliance with Mithridates VI, king of Pontus, proved his undoing.
