They EYE has it! Lake Superior Agate.

in #geology7 years ago

This is an impressive eye on this agate. How it became so big is a geological enigma. It certainly begs the question of how precisely agates form and why they have so many varieties. 4E3DE0E9-B66E-46D1-AE92-BE088F035B36.jpeg

Sort:

Agates form in igneous rocks, generally. As water seeps through the pore space of the igneous rocks, it picks up a lot of water soluble minerals. Then it deposits those minerals in gas bubbles, cracks, faults, and other open spaces in the rock, forming agates.

These form in amygdaloidal basalt. :)

how much do they cost?
and where are they often get found?

They can vary in value based on size, fractures, type etc. some for just a few dollars and some worth hundreds or more. The ones i post were all mined by myself and a friend in Michigans Upper Peninsula.

Thanks man..I followed u..hope I can find more info about em..
