They definitely look better when wet, there must be a special coating you can put on them to keep that wet look all the time- there's polishing of course, but that's a bit more time consuming or expensive than I like (give me the shortcut! lol)
I have put glossy finishes on some smaller stones for jewelry, and it does work. Basically clear nail polish, as I recall, makes small rocks really show their colors, but it'll never come off! I love the lichen and tiny mosses that grow on the surface, it adds a new dimension to the patterns in a natural way.
