APPRECIATING OUR HERITAGE
I have come to understand that alot of Nigerians are well aware of the importance of eating healthy and keeping fit. But the problem now is the choice of foods we make to keep fit and healthy.
Alot of people break their backs and banks just to buy western foods when there are foods readily available around you and are as healthy as the western foods.. examples are; eat egg if you cannot afford fresh chicken, cook bitterleaf soup if u cannot afford or access kale, asparagus etc, eat our local panla fish if you cannot afford catfish and so on...
The main food focus on this write up is our EGUSI SOUP which many commonize.
Botanical name of EGUSI is citrullus lantus.
Egusi is very rich in PROTEIN, HEALTHY FATS, VITAMINS A,B,B2,C and E. The vit E is good for young looking skin and helps with fertility
The fat in this wonderful food (egusi) is cholesterol free just to mention a few of its health importance.
So, if you are one who has passion to live healthy,but you have ruled out eating our local foods such as the ones mentioned in my write up, have a rethink.
The things to be considered though to keep the healthy side of the food is COOK IT RIGHT and EAT IT RIGHT (PORTION CONTROL)
