“I think that the U.S. will never outlaw Bitcoin. There’s too much precedent that’s been set in the courts. The Coinflip order, which was a CFTC [Commodity Futures Trading Commission] enforcement action which was upheld in the courts, considered Bitcoin a commodity like gold.”

Interesting article about what Tyler Winklevoss things the chances of a bitcoin ban are in the US. I tend to think that he's right on this on especially since so many big names and big companies are invested in it now, the regulators can't throw them all under the bus. The JP Morgan's of the world must have heard from the regulators that it was all clear to invest, they have inroads into government that the common person doesn't. And I doubt that bitcoin would be knocking on all time highs if a ban was going to happen anytime soon.

And it's not like bitcoin is a competition to the US dollar, no one is spending it like that.

You could make the point that bitcoin is competition for gold and that it's keeping the gold price lower than it would be, that's good for the governments.
