Raised Beds and Sustainable Food Production in the Garden of Eden
Soil in our part of Texas is hard clay, so we build raised beds all over our property that we fill with dank dirt.
This herb garden is made from "trash" fence panels and discarded tree trunks that were headed for a landfill had we not given them new purpose. Now they're part of our valuable food production system and nature's pharmacy!
The dirt is rich compost made from more "trash" - leaves, branches, weeds, yard clippings, and discarded food forsaken by the grocery industry as past its prime and worthless. We throw it in a pile, let nature do it's thing, and reap the rewards of rich, nutritious soil to grow more wholesome plants!
It's great fun to make more Earth.

How long do you have wait for the compost to do its thing before you can start planting in it? Do you mix in any potting soil? Also do you grow from seed?
