First harvest

in #gardening8 years ago (edited)

First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who gave advice, tips, and comments in response to my first posts. I'm enjoying steemit so far and finding it quite addictive.

The early red and white radishes are doing great! (While I admit that these are arguably some of the easiest things to grow, I still think they're delicious and exciting to see.) The white ones could be better thinned next time so that the individual radishes end up bigger.

Here are pictures of the first radishes I harvested! The flavor is excellent.

Aren't the whites rather scrawny, though? I remember having bigger ones when I gardened with my mom as a kid. I guess they could have been left to grow longer, but I thought they desperately needed to be thinned today. You can see how many plants there are clustered together in the row.

Other things that are actually growing well are the kale, arugula, red swiss chard, and one strawberry. The arugula, in particular, took no effort at all. I just stuck it in the ground and poof.

Here's the strawberry, just for fun. Bright, red, juicy success. ;)
