🌱 Home Gardening with Hydroponics Update - Time to Rebuild
Hello my fellow gardening enthusiasts. It's been a while since my last garden-related post as we move into the new year I will getting back to posting about my hyrdoponic gardens and related growing topics.
As you may know, my front hydroponics garden that I wrote about back in August was damaged enough that it has been turned off with nothing growing in it until I get a chance to rebuild a new system. Well, it's time to rebuild!
I began the process to taking apart the left side of the system, breaking down the larger wood sections and getting them out to today's trash pickup. You can see clearly now how much the tank was lifted out of the ground from the amount of rain we had. It's hard to believe the ground saturation creates such immense hydraulic forces it is capable of lifting a full 55 gallon tank.
I am working on new plans and ideas to replace the left side, while keeping the right side with the 5 dutch buckets in place. My current thinking is to remove the vertical garden pipes from the fence and just put in 3 more dutch buckets on that side instead. If I dig out and sink the tank in the ground again, I will line the bottom and side with paver bricks to prevent this from happening again. I am considering only digging up half way down this time, and just building the cover deck higher. I'm not 100% sue yet.
I am trying not to rush the decision, but I need to have this system rebuilt and running by January 15th to get the best timing for first tomato, cuccumber, and pepper harvest in early March as the Sun moves into position over the next 2 months.

I wondered where all the great hydroponic posts went from you. I know you have been focusing on photography and other interests...
Which state are you in that you can already start outdoor hydroponics?
