Orchids in our living rooms...
The monotony in the living room came to an end when exotic plants began to grow in our apartments. The orchids, which still inspire many people today with their variety of colours and shapes, are regarded as particularly coveted. The delicate and spectacular flowers enchant many hobby gardeners and lovers of these demanding plants.
In the early days, most lovers of these plants were uncertain about the care of the plants. Since there are many varieties and species, it is always an advantage for beginners to seek advice from nurseries or specialist dealers. Which orchid is suitable for the beginner and which requirements does the plant have for its location?
How should they be watered, do they need fertilizer and should they be in the sun or in the shade? All these questions should be answered before you buy so that you can enjoy the plants for a long time. Beginners with a Phalaenopsis, an orchid species that does not resent some posture mistakes, are well advised.
How should orchids be watered properly?
Those who devote themselves to the hobby of keeping orchids will have already informed themselves in advance about the plants to be cultivated. And perhaps the hobby gardener has already had extensive experience with Phalaenopsis, so that he now wants to deal with other tropical beauties.
Watering orchids properly also means helping the plants to produce a rich flower pile and inspiring the amateur gardener with the variety of colours of the flowers. The principle: "Less is more" should be the epitome of orchid care for the hobby gardener.
Orchids don't need much water, but that should be clean rainwater if possible, because orchids don't like calcareous water. Filtered water can also be used if necessary. In their homeland these plants usually grow on trees and they get most of the necessary nutrients from the air and rainwater. If you want to water the orchids properly, the watering water should be at ambient temperature. It is also sufficient to water the plant once or twice a week.
However, you should also pay attention to which orchids you take care of. But not only by watering the plants, you can also put the pots in the water for a short time. But after that you have to make sure that the excess water can drain completely out of the pot. Waterlogging should be avoided at all costs.
If the hobby gardener has followed all the care instructions correctly, his plants have a rich green, firm foliage and healthy roots, which can be recognised by their light to dark green colour. Orchids do not tolerate bright sunlight or draughts.
If the hobby gardener's plants look like this, then he has done everything right.
