Gardening - My Indoor Clivia´s Beautiful Surprise After 20 years!

Coming back from spending winter in the mountains of Andalucia, Southern Spain, we ha´ve had a lovely surprise which I have never expected when we arrived at our viennese home. My Clivia plant of more than 20 years bloomed for the first time during our absence! It´s like a small miracle has happened, the flowers are so beautiful and I love those orange blooms which have so many pistils

Description of Clivia Miniata

Clivia is a genus of monocot flowering plants native to southern Africa. They are from the family Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Common names are Natal lily or bush lily. They are herbaceous evergreen plants, with green, strap-like leaves. Individual flowers are more or less bell-shaped, occurring in umbels on a stalk above the foliage; colors typically range from yellow through orange to red. Many cultivars exist, some with variegated leaf patterns. Info Source

This is the second cluster of flowers that were about to bloom 3 days after we arrived. I was monitoring this one because I wanted to take photos on its development as flowers. Aren´t they beautiful?!

The petals of the first batch of flowers were so robust and the blooms lasted for about a week til they dried off and fell down. Clivia loves plenty of light but no direct sunlight. According to the gardener at the Garden Center, it should stay in one place. Any transfer from one place to another area will cause flower failure. That is also the reason why it took so long to flower because we are traveling each year to overcome the winter season. I have to move it downstairs to the top floor for the light, since all our windows downstairs are closed. The top floor window is South-facing but protected by shades so there is no direct sunlight. I am so glad that finally , I am seeing its lovely flowers after two decades. For me it is wonder!
