Sproutshout: Bedroom Garden

Bedroom garden

Sounds weird?
I started this bedroom garden because I'm a little overprotective of my plants. I keep seedlings here to protect them from excessive heat or hard rain. ^.^ hehe.. I also keep my cuttings here. Nothing beats seeing greens once you wake up... (:
Few photos of my bedroom garden where I keep my cuttings and lavender seedlings.

The Windowsill

This is my windowsill. It's bright up here but it only gets sunlight late in the afternoon.
Cuttings of sweet basil, rosemary, lemon balm & peppermint and lavender seedlings are the current boarders...

Sweet basil cuttings

I harvested some of my sweet basil last week. I put the basil stalks in the water and voila! -- New cuttings again. Nothing is wasted. After less than a week, it has grown some roots!

Rosemary cuttings

I find it hard to grow rosemary roots. I lose count how many weeks have passed already and up to now no noticeable development yet.

Water propagation: The one in the middle and the one in the right are the old cuttings that I put in this plastic cup. The two in the left are the newer cuttings from a colleague.

I wanted to know which method is effective for me, so I directly sowed these two in soil. Let's see!

Lemon balm

The cuttings seem to lose their bright green color and started to fade. But after two weeks, my lemon balm cuttings are showing some little roots!

Day 1. Still bright and lush.

Water is quite a lot.

ROOTS.

...are growing!

Peppermint

Nothing much from these cuttings. Few days ago, I am seeing super duper tiny roots but now they're gone.. Maybe my cuttings are way too long - almost a size of a ruler. :D I'll trim it off and see how it goes.

...Meanwhile..

Seems like I have a visitor! He's trying to get in. Ooops.. not allowed.. Better luck next time, buddy.. :D

Nice little garden. Do you use Rooting Hormone powder to get they to root faster?
I've done a lot of gardening by hydroponics and I would say it's worth $2 for a bag of
rooting powder, when they root twice as fast!
Also, you can try some rockwool 1" cubes to plant in, instead of a water sprouting, and they will root in a material they can be transferred to larger pots without transplant shock.

For the rosemary, yes.. :) i've tried honey and cinnamon.. nothing works so far.. hehe Maybe I can try rooting powder soon! thanks for the idea.

But the rockwool cube sounds more interesting...!

upped for the creativity

I find it hard to grow rosemary roots. I lose count how many weeks have passed already and up to now no noticeable development yet.

if you can find a willow tree near you
cut a few of the young ends - then boil
soak them there for 3 days
it works as a growth hormone - organically
good luck!

good job, @melaimomagwork! 😀

Thank you, doc!!! :) hehe

putting Rosemary directly into soil should do it
however you could use some root powder,
but i prefer to use willow water :-)

I actually dip the lower part of the stem in honey. I'll see hot it goes.. fingers crossed.
i even tried putting cinnamon in water in my first attempt.. nothing works so far.

oh wow honey and cinnamon, i never heard of that practice
hahah cool, we can share some nice info here

The gardener who gave me the cuttings advised me to put cinnamon in the water.. i.e. make a "tea" then put the cuttings on it.

While for the honey, i read it somewhere that it acts as a rooting hormone. :)

Great job! I'm very protective of my plants too haha 🌱

haha. like a mother cares for her child :D baby plants are precious! :)

Very true 🌱 Following you!

Same here! Thank you!
