A day in the garden

in #gardening6 years ago

Our daughter loves strawberries, so we thought we would use up some of our small garden real estate and grow some of our own.

It was such a beautiful day here so we went to the gardening shop and bought 12 plants, some strawberry food and a bit of straw.

We had to dig the garden over, added in some compost and prepared the garden. We then raised some rows and planted the strawberries.

Now we can sit back and watch and hopefully have some excellent strawberries in a few weeks / months.

As we were digging over the garden we came across some yams that had self sown. I had forgotten all about them as the leaves had died down over winter. Its only a few small yams, but enough to accompany one meal.

It was lovely being outside and getting some fresh air and much needed sun. It feels so good growing food. We are going to get another garden setup so we can get some more food growing for summer.

Nice! And strawberries are so expensive in the shops, plus they don't taste as strawberry-ish as they used to.

I think spring is my favourite season, watching everything bursting into life. :)

Yes, I love spring! Our daffodils are coming out now and look beautiful. It's so much fun. I just need to keep on top of the weeds that love spring too!

I have to remind myself that the weeds can be useful ... in the compost ... so they aren't all bad, lol. Blasted things, why do they have to grow faster and easier than our food plants? :D
