This "Spud's" for you!
The potato plants are dying back and now it's time to harvest. Last year was disappointing for potato's so we're hoping for a better crop this year.
We brought a wagon up with the lawn tractor and began digging under the watchful eye of Candy!
We also planted these potato's in a different garden this year in hopes of increasing our yield. It appears this decision helped production significantly!
Digging up potato's, better known as the tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade "Solanum Tuberosum" isn't easy work, however with two of us the chore is finished quickly. It's extremely satisfying to grow your own food, harvest and eat it knowing it hasn't been sprayed with chemicals that are probably causing most of the worlds health issues today.
Potato's are an excellent food source high in calcium, potassium, and vitamin C. They also contain iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, copper, B vitamins, and folic acid. And the list goes on.
Potato's also produce glycoalkaloids which can be toxic, so stay away from the green ones!
While we take a break Candy watches over her garden harvest
Next we fill up the wagon with our bounty which was just shy of one hundred pounds of potatoes from two short rows.
Potato's are an easy crop to grow, store really well, and provide a lot of calories per square foot of garden. They can even be grown vertically in box's, tires, or whatever you're creative side might dream up.
You are right when you say that it is great to grow and harvest our own food, besides you know that you are eating and they are fresh things, the food is much better
I like very much to eat potatoes I like to make them parboiled with a bit of butter and cheese or as a puree with butter they are very good French fries are very good I think it was a good harvest of potatoes congratulations
Candy as always attentive
Thank you.....I think we may have to pull out the deep fryer and make some french fries now!
That's a wagon load of deliciousness right there. I think Candy knows the value of the crop since she guards the harvest until your return. What a great team you all are!!!
Thanks :)
De verdad que no parece un trabajo fácil @brimax, pero al ver los resultados de tanto esfuerzo vale la pena y no creo haya nada mejor que disfrutar de alimentos ricos y lo mejor cosechados en casa. Saludos y disfrutalos
You're right, there is nothing better than homegrown food!
Hello my friend @brimax how are you at home? how is this @anise I see that Candy is very well always taking care of you and the farm
Good potato harvests there were many potatoes out there. I've seen that it was good for their potatoes and it's good to know that besides fresh direct to your table they are much healthier so I wish I had a place to make my own crops.
I hope to see a recipe with those potatoes would be interesting
Greetings to all at home
We might be able to come up with a recipe or two. During the winter months we do a lot of cooking videos!
Hello friend, the harvest of potatoes for me is very rewarding, especially when the harvest is of good quality, I tell you that on one occasion we took a harvest of beautiful potatoes had plants that gave tuberculo weighing more than half a kilo, it was really very exciting, as soon as the government found out, they applied a clause, and they confiscated the entire harvest, losing the investment in addition to being owed. That is why today it is very rewarding to see such a good harvest and more with what you mention, that you did not apply chemical products. In addition to the benefits that you have already mentioned, it serves us for the beauty of our skin as, to reduce the swelling of the dark circles, eliminate facial blemishes, which are very good for acne. among other great benefits, plus they are very versatile to prepare thousands of culinary recipes, from fries to the imaginable, so I congratulate you for that excellent harvest of potatoes and that will make you happy and to prepare a good meal for Candy . greetings to anise @brimax
A 1/2 kilo? Wow!
It really is to bad that the government thinks what is yours is theirs.
Stay safe.
It is wonderful to see how abundant your harvest is, what a wonderful soil they have. I like the work they do as a team, until candy helps, well done!
Thank you
Hopefully this year's harvest is good.
I really like potatoes, I often make fried potato snacks.
Thanks @brimax
Mmmmm....french fries!
Not bad my friend! I just went through a few of my smaller beds and took out some of the dying/spent plants to plant more kale, spinach and carrots for the fall! Love my greens...........
You know there is nothing better than food you have grown....free from the agri-chemical giants that want to control our food supply.
Hello my dear friend brimax how are you?
Many crops have seen on your garden. I am happy to see it. Very good job. Well done.
